The automation technology company Tonghow has its origin in a co-operation between several technical experts in the field of photo-electronic encoders of Changchun Optic Research Institute belonging to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and senior technical experts for encoders of Changchun’s First Optical Instrument Factory as co-founders. The company relies on a strong technical backing and the capacities from Changchun Optic Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Over the years, it provided numerous encoder products for Chinese military engineering projects, aerospace and other fields. In the year 2006, the company established an R & D center in Shanghai, and has set up production lines in the Pudong Jinqiao Export Processing Zone and Zhangjiang High-tech Park, hereby has begun to enter civilian markets. The products are mainly export-oriented OEM manufactured.

Early in 2008, the company changed its business strategy and opted for a new mission: to promote national industry, to create a national outstanding brand and to begin to sell TONGHOW brand products in China as well as on the world market, with the object of Tonghow domestic encoders becoming a first-class brand. At the same time, Tonghow Automation Technology Co., Ltd. was registered.

The establishment of Tonghow Automation marked the transformation of the company’s export oriented OEM business model into a national brand-building model.

Tonghow’s aim is to develop into a first-class research and development center, first-class manufacturing base, to obtain a first-class brand image, and to become a supplier of excellent encoders of first-class product quality.
